“Misericordias Domini” was written for Grace Lutheran Church in Hockessin, DE and premiered during the Advent season on December 7th, 2014. The text comes from Psalm 89 and has been set by several composers including Orlando di Lasso and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Although settings of this text are usually used during Advent, this setting is appropriate for services and performances throughout the year. This ancient text praises the never-ending mercies the Lord grants His people each and every day. Similarly, the musical themes and interwoven ostinatos reflect His eternal love for creation and continues through to the end of the piece which seems to leave us hearing the alto theme sing on without end.
Translation: Misericordias Domini In aeternum cantabo: In generationem et generationem Anuntiabo veritatem tuam in ore meo. Misericordia aedificabitur In coelis: Praeparabitur veritas tua in eis.
The mercies of the Lord I shall praise for ever and ever; To generation and generation My mouth shall proclaim your truth. For you have said: Mercy shall be built up Forever in the heavens: Your truth shall be prepared in them.
