BENEDICTION was written in February-March of 2013 for my friend Keith Haan upon his retirement as Director of Choral Activities St. Ambrose University. The “threefold blessing” seemed perfect for the occasion as we gathered to wish our colleague well on his way. I used the latin text because I wanted that elevated sound those open […]

for Mixed Choir (SATB) with Soprano Soloist
    by
    2' 3"
This setting is ideally suited for a good chamber choir with a high soprano soloist. Julie Myers’ beautiful poem suggests to the composer a journey from darkness to light, from despair to hope, and this is reflected in the music, which should be performed simply, but with expressiveness and conviction.

for SATB chorus, two pianos and percussion
Scored for SATB chorus, with two pianos and percussion, this uplifting setting of e.e. cummings’ “i thank You God for most this amazing” was commissioned by the Wilmington Friends School to celebrate their 250th Anniversary. It is an excellent choice for pairing with the Killmayer reduction of Orff’s Carmina Burana. There is, unfortunately, no live recording of […]

Nearly every December, Christmas sneaks up on me far too quickly, busy as I am with end-of-semester grading and final exams. I’m an admittedly nostalgic guy who unabashedly loves Christmas music, and every year I think to myself ‘I really should have written a Christmas piece this year’. Christmas 2015 followed a similar pattern, except […]
