Celebrate a New Day

for treble choir and piano

“Celebrate A New Day,” is an uptempo, rhythmic piece that was composed for the 75th Anniversary of the Australian Boys Choir. It is ideal for special occasions like graduations and is suitable for all young treble choirs, mixed children’s choirs, as well as boys and girls choirs. The work received the “Audience Favorite” award at its Melbourne premiere and is a crowd-pleaser, fun for the choir and a great concert opener (or closer).  The opening section features an empowering and inspirational text. Midway through the piece the title is sung repeatedly over challenging harmonies. This gives way to a joyous “echo” section containing just about every word that rhymes with Celebrate, culminating in a majestic finale.

Carol of the Seekers is a short, sweet, simple Christmas carol for treble voices, either a cappella or with handbells. The refrain’s joyous, cascading “Noël” suggests tintinnabulation, while the five verses offer a metaphysical interpretation of the Christmas story: like the shepherds and the wise men, all who seek the infant Jesus will find him […]

This very simple Christmas song is aimed at younger children. It is in unison throughout, apart from a brief optional descant part near the end. Accompaniment is for piano, and a few simple percussion instruments may be added if desired. As the original version (GTT-025a) refers directly to Christ’s Nativity, I have also been asked […]

The original Gaudete was published in 1582 in a collection of 74 songs called the Piæ Cantiones ecclesiasticæ et scholasticæ veterum episcoporum, translated as “Devout ecclesiastical and scholastic songs of the old bishops.” Theodoricus Petri, a Finnish student at the university in Rostock, compiled the book of medieval songs from Finland, Sweden, and several other […]

Without doubt, children of all ages enjoy singing rounds. The rounds they learn are likely to be the old worthies of past centuries: “Sumer is icumen in”, “Fie, Nay, Prithee, John” or “Well Rung, Tom!” This original collection balances the standard repertoire with a variety of easy, feel-good rounds: the sweet, the comic and the […]
