In this 40 minute comic romp originally paired with Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, Susan tries to hide her secret smoking habit from her health-obsessed husband Gil. A sarcastic jazz trio comments wryly in the background.
The Filthy Habit was the first opera performed in the Chicago Fringe festival and was a finalist in the National Opera Association’s Chamber Opera competition in 2005. More than a dozen productions, including Manhattan Opera Theatre, Urban Arias, Lyric Opera of the North, Opera On Tap New York, Opera On Tap Philadelphia, Carnegie Mellon University, Florida State University Tallahassee, Lebanon Valley College and more.
