Composer Lydia Jane Pugh

Hailing from Guernsey, Channel Islands UK, Lydia is an up-and-coming composer specialising in choral and chamber music. She studied for a BA in Music at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and subsequently received an MA from Leeds College of Music in Composition. Her music has been performed and recorded by several prominent professional groups, including ‘The Spires Philharmonic Chorus’, ‘The Ebor Singers’ and ‘The Australian Boys Choir Vocal Consort’. Her music’s universal appeal has lead to performances across the world, including the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA. She has been a finalist for the ‘National Centre for Early Music’s Young Composer Award’, ‘Songdoor International Songwriting Competition’, ‘Australian Boys Choir Choral Composition Competition’, and most recently the ‘Maurice Ravel International Composing Competition’. Lydia has participated in several composer workshops, forums and Institutes, including the Charlotte New Music Festival, The Lehigh Choral Composers Forum, and The Choral Chameleon Summer Institute, which has resulted in premieres of a new works for ‘Great Noise Ensemble’, ‘Beo String Quartet’, ‘The Princeton Singers’ and ‘The Choral Chameleon Singers’ respectively. Recordings of her work have also been broadcast on BBC Radio Guernsey. Alongside composing and arranging Lydia works as a vocal coach and professional singer.
