Finlandia (Ambrosian Oaks)

Piano

This music is an arrangement of the hymn section within Jean Sibelius’ famous tone poem Finlandia. Cast in flowing sixteenth notes, the melody soars above the harmonization that offers up some beautiful surprises. This would make an excellent special piece for a church service, in a recital or as an encore. The subtitle refers to the usage of the tune as the alma mater, known as “Ambrosian Oaks,” for St. Ambrose University where I am Professor of Music.

Finlandia (Ambrosian Oaks) is one of 11 tracks recorded by myself on the 2011 CD, “Piano Songs,” available on CDBaby, Amazon and iTunes.
