The piano piece Notturno (Nocturne) has the character of an improvisation and should be played with freedom and fantasy. It aims to suggest a typical night music with an initial sense of stillness and mystery which turns gradually into a storm. The end is vague and suspended.
In order to better indicate the character of this composition, a particular notation is used where the indication ”senza tempo, a piacere” (without strict Tempo) appears. Here the rhythm is completely left to the taste of the interpreter, but it can be suggested from the different spacing between each note.
