This work is dedicated to the memory of a much-loved citizen of my hometown, Ray Minner, who died suddenly of a heart attack in July of 2012, leaving the entire community in shock. Wanting to do something to help bring a measure of peace and comfort to those grieving in the wake of this unexpected tragedy, I turned to one of my favorite scripture passages: Isaiah 40. This ancient text is really timeless, and has helped to bring peace and courage to many facing tremendous challenges. I am reminded of a moving scene in the film ‘Chariots of Fire,’ in which Eric Liddell reads the text from the lectern in church: “They shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” It is my sincere hope that my musical setting of these words will serve merely as an avenue through which they can bring comfort to those who are weary and give them courage to press on.
